About Sixth Grade
Sixth grade marks the beginning of middle school at Assumption-St. Bridget School. Our goal is to help each student manage the excitement and apprehension that accompany this new range of experiences and expectations by teaching the study skills and organizational strategies necessary for success in the middle school years. Sixth graders grow in their ability to think abstractly, analyze topics, read increasingly complex texts, and write in more detail, and these skills are utilized in all curriculum areas.
Beginning in sixth grade, middle-school students change classes, so they are getting used to having a number of different teachers each day. The two homeroom teachers teach literature and language arts. Students move to different classrooms and teachers for religion, math, social studies, and science. Each week, they have physical education and technology classes. On Thursdays, they have a fine arts block class, which is music first trimester, drama second trimester, and art third trimester.
